Things to See & Do on the Long Beach Bike Path
The Long Beach Bike Path is a paved, 3.1-mile route that winds past sandy beaches, offering stunning ocean views, lively gathering spots, and creative detours that invite you to pause or play. With mostly flat terrain and refreshing sea breezes, the ride is relaxed, accessible, and a whole lot of fun. This itinerary highlights just one great way to experience it from start to finish.
WHEEL FUN RENTALS
There are so many ways to enjoy the Long Beach Bike Path: walk, jog, skate or cycle. If you’re looking for the latter, you’ll want to begin at Wheel Fun Rentals (429 Shoreline Village Dr), right on the water at Shoreline Village. A perfect point to rent a cruiser, tandem or e-bike and launch directly onto the Bike Path. With the marina, Lions Lighthouse, downtown skyline and Queen Mary views right beside you, you’ll be in beach-day mode by your first pedal.
GAUCHO BEACH
And, as you are pedaling, it won’t be long before you come upon Gaucho Beach (780 E Shoreline Dr) located on the sand at Alamitos Beach. Just steps from the path, in the shadow of the iconic Villa Riviera, this two-story restaurant buzzes with energy and sweeping ocean views, making it an ideal stop. Sit down and enjoy Argentine-California dishes, all-day brunch, and cocktails or grab coffee, smoothies or sandwiches from the walk-up window while the kids enjoy the adjacent playground.
JUNIPERO BEACH
Less than a mile down the path you’ll come to Junipero Beach, and this is where things get playful … or cultured … or both. If you packed your roller skates, enjoy the spectacularly appointed outdoor roller rink that is connected to the path. (If you brought a basketball, shoot some hoops on the adjoining sports court.) You can also head up a set of stairs to the Long Beach Museum of Art (2300 E Ocean Blvd) and its amazing collection of painting, video art and sculpture. If you’re hungry or thirsty, Claire’s at the Museum is located on the museum campus and serves innovative food and drinks while offering great views of the ocean and Queen Mary.
ROSIE’S DOG BEACH
Next up is Rosie’s Dog Beach, one of Long Beach’s most joyful stretches of sand. This off-leash dog paradise is full of wagging tails, sprinting pups and their happy humans, making it impossible not to smile as you either ride by or stop to enjoy the fun. Neighboring Monty’s Dog Beach & Bar (5000 E Ocean Blvd) is where you can enjoy a drink or bite with your pup while enjoying the wonderful community vibe.
GRILL ’EM ALL
You push on to the finish at Bay Shore Beach, which delivers something you’ve definitely earned: burgers, fries and the deliciously glorious chaos at Grill ’Em All (5411 E Ocean Blvd). This Belmont Shore staple pairs a heavy metal attitude–and music–with wildly indulgent burgers like the Ozzy Osbourne (house made chimichurri, blue cheese, onion frizzle on a black bun) loaded fries like the Long Beach Dirtbag (house made chili, fried bacon, chipotle ketchup and cheese) as well as cold drinks. After miles of sun and salt air, everything tastes better here.
