Long Beach is a premier destination for the 2028 Summer Olympic, hosting 11 athletic events during the games–the most of any city other than Los Angeles.

Which Olympic Games are in Long Beach?

Hospitality Houses

Reinforcing its role as a global cultural crossroads, Long Beach is the first city in the region to secure three national hospitality houses for the 2028 Summer Games, welcoming Greece, Ireland and Denmark. Honoring Greece’s legacy as the birthplace of the Games, the Hellenic Olympic Committee’s Team House at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church (5761 E Colorado St) will feature Greek history, culture, arts, official events and athlete meet-and-greets celebrating the Olympic ideals. Downtown, the Olympic Federation of Ireland will establish Team Ireland House at Ovation Square (350 Pine Ave), and offer cultural programming, live entertainment, exhibitions, athlete and family gatherings and youth engagement initiatives. Denmark will bring its iconic three-masted training ship DANMARK to Rainbow Harbor after a six-month voyage from Europe via the Panama Canal. House of Denmark at The Westin (333 E Ocean Blvd) will provide high-performance athlete support, including sports medicine, recovery, nutrition and mental health services.

Transportation

Getting around in Long Beach without a car is a breeze! In addition to being a top-ranked city for walkability, Long Beach also boasts an efficient public transit system as well as several other free and low-cost transportation options, including water taxis in the summer and free shuttles on weekends. The City of Long Beach has also announced that additional transit options and corridors will be developed to accommodate Olympic event attendees.

Long Beach Attractions

Long Beach combines big city sophistication with a laidback coastal vibe. Experience this waterfront playground along more than five miles of pristine coastline where you can swim, kayak, wind and kite surf, cruise the canals of Naples in an authentic Venetian gondola or spend a day, and a night, aboard the iconic Queen Mary. Explore the Aquarium of the Pacific, Southern California’s largest aquarium or enjoy a deep sea adventure on a whale watching expedition. Shop in one of the city’s unique districts, delve into its foodie scene home to one of the most diverse dining scenes in the country, including 30 distinct international cuisines.

Walkability

Though it’s California’s seventh largest city, visitors don’t have to spend a lot of time in their car to see everything Long Beach has to offer. Long Beach is ranked as one America’s most walkable cities. Its scenic waterfront is just steps from its lively downtown, with more than 125 bars, restaurants and attractions within an eight-block radius, including the Aquarium of the Pacific.

It’s just a short rideshare to the historic Queen Mary ocean liner, Museum of Latin American Art, Retro Row, Belmont Shore, Naples and its romantic canals.

Olympic History in Long Beach

Olympic history is woven into the fabric of Long Beach, having hosted rowing and sailing events in 1932 and sailing, fencing and archery competitions in 1984. Some of the same facilities will be utilized as sites of competition in 2028. For instance, Marine Stadium, which hosted rowing in 1932, will once again host the rowing competition in 2028, as well as canoe sprint. In addition, competitions in sailing will be held at Belmont Shore, marathon swimming at Alamitos Beach, handball inside the Long Beach Arena and water polo in a temporary pool constructed behind the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center.
