Inside the Blacksmith Shop
April 4, 10:00am
Rancho Los Alamitos will host a workshop inside its blacksmith shop so attendees can see the shop in action and learn more about this historic trade.
One of the Rancho's volunteer blacksmiths, Paul, will demonstrate traditional blacksmithing techniques and introduce the tools of the trade. Participants will learn the important role a blacksmith shop played on a working ranch and how blacksmiths supported ranch life.
Also, participants will take part in a hands-on activity inspired by blacksmith branding. Instructors from Tandy Leather will guide attendees through stamping designs onto veg tan leather. Create your own take-home piece while learning about the craft of marking and decoration.
If you’ve ever been curious about how a historic blacksmith shop worked and want to see it in action, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to learn more.
Recommended for ages 7 years and older. Space is limited.
