Exhibition Opening: Can't Look Away
April 11, 3:00pm
Loiter Galleries will host a Grand Opening for its new exhibition, Can't Look Away.
“CAN’T LOOK AWAY,” a photographic essay of the homeless population in Long Beach, opens April 11, 3-8PM, in conjunction with the DTLB Art + Design Walk. (The gallery will be opening at 3 PM, with Grand Opening Festivities commencing at 5 PM.)
Using an Android phone, a keen eye, and an empathic view of the unhoused in Long Beach, experiential photographer Dan Samson humanizes the epidemic of homelessness. He implores us to not look away.
Samson, a longtime resident of Long Beach, uses his camera to make a simple statement: These are people. Human beings who currently are without homes, but who have the same wants and needs as all of us.
Dan’s purpose is to remind all of us that we are more similar than we are different; that many of us are a few paychecks away from losing our own places of residence.
This exhibit is of every day life when one is unhoused and will allow visitors to actively help by purchasing a “homeless provisions bag,” packed with essentials for those who currently are forced to live on the street.
“Can’t look away” opens April 11 and will run through May 2.
Loiter Galleries regular hours: Thursday - Saturday, 5-8 PM; and Sunday, 1-4 PM.
