Free Summer Fun on Catalina Island
Planning a summer trip to Catalina Island? If you need ideas for your itinerary, the City of Avalon provides free events every day of the week with their “Avalon Summer Series.” From bingo and movie screenings to yoga on the beach and fishing for kids, your family will love all the free offerings, ensuring your days on Catalina are full and fun!
MONDAYS: BEACH DAYS
Every Monday, head to Catalina’s South Beach (Crescent Ave, Avalon) to enjoy free games, kayak tours, and more family-friendly activities for free from 11 AM to 3 PM. Beach Days are hosted by the City of Avalon every Monday from June 16 to August 18.
TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS: SUMMER BEACH BINGO
Win fun local prizes and have some good old-fashioned fun playing bingo this summer on Catalina! Every Tuesday and Thursday evening June 17 to August 21, enjoy bingo on the beach presented by the City of Avalon. Admission is free, and bingo cards are $1 each. Games are held from 6 to 7 PM at the South Beach Lifeguard stand (Crescent Ave, Avalon).
WEDNESDAYS: KID'S FISHING DERBY
From June 18 to August 20, kids ages 3 to 16 can join a fishing guide for the weekly Kid’s Fishing Derby on Wednesday mornings, 7 to 9 AM, on the Green Pleasure Pier (Crescent Ave at Catalina Ave) in Avalon. The young anglers can win prizes for most, biggest, and oddest fish caught, sponsored by Catalina Outdoor Adventure Club. Participation is free. Bring your own rod, reel, and dropline or purchase bait and gear on the pier.
WEDNESDAYS: MOVIES ON THE BEACH
Bring your beach chairs and blankets to spread out on the sand at South Beach (Crescent Ave, Avalon) for weekly Movies on the Beach! Held every Wednesday at 8 PM from June 18 to August 20, these free events are supported by the Catalina Yacht Club and Lions Club. Movies will include family favorites like Moana 2, Wicked, and Nacho Libre, and snacks and refreshments will be available for purchase.
FRIDAYS: FUNKY FRIDAYS
Break out your boogie shoes for a free dance party every Friday from June 20 to August 22 at the Wrigley Stage (Crescent Ave, Avalon). Funky Fridays take place from 7 to 9 PM, and everyone is welcome to dance the night away under the stars.
SATURDAYS: ART IN THE PARK
Bring the kids to Avalon Kid’s Park (415 Avalon Canyon Road, Avalon) on Saturdays from 11 AM to 3 PM for Art in the Park! These free events will be held from June 21 to August 16 to engage kids in STEM learning through arts and crafts. All ages and abilities are welcome.
SUNDAYS: YOGA ON THE BEACH
Start your days on Catalina with a yoga session at the edge of the Pacific Ocean. Yoga on the Beach is held on Sunday mornings at 9 AM on Avalon’s South Beach (Crescent Ave), June 22 to August 17. In these free beginner-friendly classes, instructor Mary Bentdahl will help you learn the fundamentals of yoga in a friendly and supportive environment that will help improve your flexibility, strength and well-being.
