Community Connects with Musical Theatre West
March 21, 2:00pm
Musical Theatre West will host its next Community Connects event: “In the Belmont Heights,” a free, family-friendly block party-style event celebrating the vibrant Latinx and Chicanx cultures that help shape Long Beach. Taking place at MTW’s headquarters, this one-day event invites all ages to come together for an afternoon filled with live music, salsa dancing lessons, hands-on instrument making, interactive art activities, and cultural workshops led by local artists and organizations.
Inspired by Musical Theatre West’s upcoming spring production of In the Heights by Lin-Manuel Miranda, “In the Belmont Heights” brings the spirit of the musical off the stage and into the neighborhood.Feel the rhythm with salsa dancing lessons led by CSULB Salsa Club, and sway to the music with performances by a live band. Make your own instrument in the instrument-making workshops with world renowned musician and teacher Martin Espino. There will also be a plethora of interactive activities and games led by local organizations including Aquarium of the Pacific, Museum of Latin American Art (MoLAA), History Society of Long Beach, Friends of the LB Library, and more.
