AfterDark at LBMA
May 23, 7:00pm
The Long Beach Museum of Art will host its annual AfterDark event with the opening of The Art of Food: From the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation, on Friday, May 23. LBMA AfterDark is an evening of art, music, drinks, and food.
About the Exhibition
The topic of food is one we can all relate to. From its basic necessity for sustaining life to the effects of its production on the world around us, there are endless viewpoints to explore. Food is integral to our communities, relationships, cultures, and memories. It is a commodity, a livelihood, and it has ethical implications. We use food as an intermediary to connect with others through holiday meals, business lunches, dates, and social gatherings. This fun, thoughtful exhibition encourages visitors to consider where their food is from and how food and society inform one another. Whether playful or critical, each work presents a different perspective on food's central place in everyday life.
The Long Beach Museum of Art is pleased to present The Art of Food: From the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation, featuring over 100 works in a variety of mediums, including drawings, paintings, photographs, prints, sculptures, and ceramics. This exhibition brings together iconic postwar artists such as Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney, John Baldessari, Ed Ruscha, and Jasper Johns, alongside contemporary artists including Alison Saar, Lorna Simpson, Enrique Chagoya, Rachel Whiteread, and Jenny Holzer, among others.
The Art of Food, a traveling exhibition, is organized by the University of Arizona Museum of Art and the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation.
