Whether you're a veteran, a military family or simply want to pay tribute, these local events offer opportunities to connect, reflect and celebrate.
QUEEN MARY
Celebrate Veterans Day aboard the historic Queen Mary (1126 Queens Hwy), which served as a troop transport during World War II, with a special day dedicated to honoring our nation's heroes. Veterans, active duty military members and their guests are invited to enjoy complimentary admission and a full lineup of live music, arts and crafts, interactive activities as well as the opportunity to write a letter to the troops. Don't miss the embarkation tour, where you'll learn about the fascinating history of the Queen Mary’s wartime service.
AQUARIUM OF THE PACIFIC
The Aquarium of the Pacific (100 Aquarium Way) will offer free admission to veterans and active-duty military personnel on Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 9 AM to 6 PM. Explore the Aquarium’s diverse marine exhibits, featuring fascinating sea life from the Pacific and beyond. Advance reservations are required, and capacity is limited, so booking ahead is encouraged. CITY OF LONG BEACH VETERANS DAY CELEBRATION
Celebrate and honor the service of our nation’s veterans at the City of Long Beach’s annual Veterans Day Celebration at Houghton Park (6301 Myrtle Ave) on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 12 to 4 PM. This free, family-friendly event brings the community together with a veterans and community resource fair, food trucks, beer garden, kids’ zone and a bootcamp-style obstacle course. Enjoy live entertainment throughout the afternoon, including DJ Mr. Quick, The Satin Dollz and Knyght Ryder, while connecting with organizations that support local veterans.
TIBOR RUBIN VA MEDICAL CENTER
Honor the service and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans at the Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center (5901 E 7th St) on Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 10 AM to 2 PM. This free, community celebration welcomes veterans, military families and the public for a day of recognition and appreciation. The event will take place in Lot F2, bringing the community together to reflect on the contributions of those who have served. BATTLESHIP IOWA
Honor America’s veterans aboard the historic Battleship IOWA (250 S Harbor Blvd, San Pedro) during the Veterans Day Bells of Peace observance on Nov. 11. At 11 AM, the historic battleship will join the nationwide commemoration with 21 tolls honoring the men and women who served in the U.S. military and marking the end of World War I. It’s a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made for our country.
