First Fridays are an enjoyable way to unwind from the week
One of the reasons why I (and probably many others) love Long Beach is because there is so much diversity in this large city. Basically each different neighborhood offers a complete separate feel from the other. For example, Belmont Shore has a small beach town feel, while 4th Street (aka Retro Row) has a more vintage/hipster vibe. And they each host their own neighborhood events for the community. This is so exciting to me because although we are a large city, we still have a great sense of community throughout us, and I’m sure it’s partly due to these types of events. One community event I’d like to spotlight today is First Fridays, which takes place in Bixby Knolls. This monthly event is such a great time and it’s a cool way to start the weekend…full of life and art!
First Fridays started years ago and was a smaller gathering, but has recently grown into a staple, block party-esque event for the Bixby Knolls community. Local artists come out to entertain and show off their work, while some businesses stay open later for a chance to help an artist and get more word out about their store. You truly get a sense of the community’s support for each other during this time.
First Fridays are an enjoyable way to unwind from the week, so we highly recommend attending when you can. Start the first weekend of the month making new friends (or meeting your regular group) in the Bixby Knolls community and see what the local artists and businesses are up to.
To keep up with the theme and the happenings of the month’s event, just go to the First Fridays website, and keep up on their social media channels!
