An ethereal journey through grief, quiet joy and transcendence, to recognize a theme universal beyond time: humanity’s search for peace. To create his widely-celebrated 20th century Requiem, Duruflé blended the music of ancient Gregorians with the rich harmonic language of twentieth-century French music. Composed across four iterations over seven years during and after World War II, the work reflects a deeply spiritual, comforting meditation on death rather than a terrifying one.
