Halloween Bars and Pop-ups in Long Beach
As the nights grow longer and cooler, it’s the perfect time for sipping spirited and spooky beverages in surroundings decorated for the season. Many of your favorite Long Beach bars and restaurants have transformed into local haunts in celebration of Halloween and other mystical fall-time celebrations. Read on and make your plans for some fun and frightening nights out.
BEACHWOOD BREWING & DISTILLING
For the month of October, Beachwood Brewing & Distilling (3630 Atlantic Ave) in Bixby Knolls will transform into a fully decked-out Halloween destination with special decor, drinks, and events. A Halloween-themed cocktail menu will offer drinks made with Beachwood’s house-distilled spirits, bitters, and liqueurs. For example, the Bone Daddy is made with house distilled gin and flavors of passion fruit, prickly pear, lychee, and lemon, garnished with a lychee “eyeball,” and served in a skeleton mug. Follow @beachwoodbrewing for updates on more celebrations popping up throughout the month, including the Howl-O-Ween Dog Costume Contest on October 11.
ROXANNE'S
Roxanne’s (1115 E Wardlow Rd) in the California Heights neighborhood will honor Latin American traditions, opening up their seasonal hidden bar Marie’s Tek Tec to become Marie’s de los Muertos on October 1. This month-long pop-up pays tribute to Día de los Muertos with themed drinks, a community altar, and a ceremonial “Pour One Out” shot, where you can buy a shot and get one free to pour out in memory of a departed loved one. On the pop-up’s last day on November 1, Roxanne’s will host a special event with an Aztec dance ceremony, live music, face painting, and a coloring station for kids. Roxanne’s will also be screening horror movies on their front patio every Thursday in October. For details, visit their website.
PORT CITY TAVERN
Don’t miss Port City Tavern’s (4306 E Anaheim St) Pirate Experience, which is bigger and better than ever this year, with more over-the-top pirate-themed Halloween decor and festival cocktails for landlubbers and scallywags alike. From October 1 to November 2, enjoy skulls in the firepits outside, pirate skeletons swinging from the chandeliers, and sipping from skulls at the bar. Plus, if you’re looking for something fun to do on Halloween night, Port City Tavern will host their annual Halloween-themed silent disco party on October 31.
THE SOCIAL LIST
The Social List (2105 E 4th St) is unveiling a “Nightmare on 4th Street” specialty menu for the Halloween season with dishes inspired by movies like Beetlejuice, Hocus Pocus, and more. They’ve gone all out on decorations, leaning into kitschy fun to reflect a menu that includes pasta with meatballs decorated with cheese and olives to look like eyeballs and a dish of shrimp resting on a bed of black-and-white striped farfalle pasta that would take Tim Burton’s breath away. Plus, there are seven special cocktails, like “Los Muertos” made with Mexican whiskey, Abuelita chocolate syrup, activated charcoal, and cinnamon glitter.
BLACK LAGOON AT THE ORDINARIE
The team that brings the wildly popular Miracle at The Ordinarie pop-up to Long Beach each December has concocted a new Halloween installation in the same spirit called Black Lagoon. This Halloween pop-up at The Ordinarie (210 The Promenade N) will plaster the tavern from floor to ceiling with horror-themed decor from October 3 to November 1. Much like Miracle, Black Lagoon will feature a special menu of drinks served in spooky mugs and a themed menu of festive treats and will be open daily from 11:30 AM to 1 AM. Reservations are available during the day, but the pop-up is walk-ins only starting at 3:30 PM to give everyone an equal chance at the fun.
