Overview
The Historical Society of Long Beach collects, preserves and presents local history. Using historical documents, photographs, artifacts, and oral and written stories. The HSLB creates exhibits and public programs that connect people to the places they live. Programs include:
--Exhibitions currently on display: “Suburban Architecture” features the historic work of local architects over the past century, and “Greetings from Long Beach” showing vintage postcards from HSLB’s unique collection. Suggested donation $5
--Historical Research Center & Historical Collections: This service provides community members, and researchers with a convenient place to access first-hand information, documents, artifacts, maps, and photos detailing the community’s history including the Pike. $25 a day for non-members.
--Historical Cemetery Tour: This unique annual event brings history to life through volunteer actors who perform the stories of those buried in the city’s two oldest cemeteries. Held the last Saturday in October. Tickets are $18
--Educational Discussions, Slide Shows, Book Signings, and Youth Oral History Program
--Each First Friday open 6-10pm
Open Thurs 1-7, Fri 1-5 and Sat 11-5.
