Formula DRIFT kicks-off the 14th championship season on the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Street Course
The Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Street Course has been around since 1977. Highlighted by Formula 1, IndyCar, American Le Mans Series, The Toyota Pro/Celebrity race, and now Formula DRIFT.
2017 will be Formula DRIFT’s 12th consecutive year at the famous Street Course. The 2-day event will again be one week prior to the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
Utilizing Turns 9, 10, and 11 of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Street Course, Formula DRIFT slides its way on one of two actual street course utilized for professional drifting. With a high-speed entry and very tight spacing between the cars and walls, there is no room for mistakes, making the opening round of the Formula DRIFT season one of the most exciting drift events of the year.
This event also features: a huge vendor village, tons of giveaways from sponsors, driver autograph session, open pits to see the cars and stars up close and personal, and so much more!
Round 1: Streets of Long Beach will kick-off the 2017 Championship season in style with new cars, new drivers, and all the sideways excitement that Formula DRIFT is known for. 2016 Champion Christ Forsberg will be back to defend his title against all competitors including Fredric Aasbo, Vaughn Gittin Jr., Aurimas “Odi” Bakchis and the rest of the talented pool of drivers.

Miss Toyota Grand Prix LB Pageant
Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach fans, where are you? Our finale for the finalists of this year's Miss TGPLB will be held Wednesday, April 5th at Hotel Maya DoubleTree by Hilton! This event is free to the public and all ages are welcome. Come meet our current winners and received a signed hero card while snapping photos in The Happen Booth and dancing the evening away with DJ Herick. The contest begins at 7pm, we can't wait to see you there!
Motorsport Walk of Fame: Emerson Fittipaldi, Tommy Kendall to be Inducted Into Walk of Fame!
Two legendary drivers with proud histories at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach – Emerson Fittipaldi and Tommy Kendall – will be inducted into the Long Beach Motorsports Walk of Fame on Thursday, April 6, at 11:00 a.m.
The public is invited to attend the free, 12th annual induction ceremony, which will be held on South Pine Avenue in front of the Convention Center, along the route of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
“Emerson Fittipaldi and Tommy Kendall have truly earned their place on the Motorsports Walk of Fame,” said Mayor Robert Garcia, who will be presenting medallions to the honorees. “It is a privilege to welcome them back to Long Beach and honor them for all of their outstanding achievements in the racing world.”
Emerson Fittipaldi, one of the world’s most recognized drivers, took second place at the Toyota Grand Prix in 1985 and 1990, and third place in 1980, 1989 and 1992. The Brazilian, who began racing motorcycles at age 14, is a two-time winner of both the Formula One World Championship (1972 and 1974) and the Indianapolis 500 (1989 and 1993). He won the Indy Car World Series Championship in 1989, and has a total of 40 wins across Formula One and Indy cars.
Tommy Kendall, a member of the Kendall racing family, took second place in the Trans-Am series at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach in 1987 and 1989. The Santa Monica native won the Trans-Am Series Championship in 1990, 1995, 1996, and 1997, and the IMSA GTU Series Championship in 1986, 1987, and 1988. He also has enjoyed a successful broadcasting career.
“We’re thrilled to induct Emerson and Tommy into the Long Beach Motorsports Walk of Fame this year,” said Jim Michaelian, President and CEO of the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach. “They have both made enormous contributions to the sport of racing, as well as the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.”

Thunder Thursday at The Pike Outlets Promises Plenty of Action!
Thunder Thursday at The Pike Outlets, the free-to-the-public festival that annually kicks off the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach race weekend on Thursday, April 6, will have plenty of action for the entire family.
Beginning at 6:30 p.m., Thunder Thursday at The Pike Outlets will feature Verizon IndyCar Series pit stop competitions on Shoreline Drive, west of Pine Ave. at 6:45 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. with three-time Long Beach winner Sebastien Bourdais and his #18 Dale Coyne Racing Honda facing off against Spencer Pigot and the #20 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet. Freestyle motocross demonstrations will take over Shoreline Drive at 7:05 p.m. and 8:05 p.m. and Tony Carabjal’s stunt motorcycles will wow the crowd at 7:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m. and 8:50 p.m. Spectator viewing for these events will be located in and around the three grandstands adjacent to The Pike Outlets at Pine Ave. and Shoreline Drive.
Within The Pike Outlets, fans will enjoy live music from Hearts Like Lions and Spencer Sutherland, as well as live DJs on the stage in the main Plaza. Food will be available in the main plaza from Famous Dave’s BBQ and other food trucks, and for fans 21 and older, a Tecate Beer Garden will also be located in the main plaza.
Car enthusiasts and racing fans will find a classic car show located on The Paseo, with local classic, antique and vintage cars, while there will be a race car display on Bay Street with professional drivers and crews from the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Pirelli World Challenge and SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks signing autographs. Gamers will get a chance to test their skill with free race car simulators located on The Paseo.
Fans will also get to see the debut of the 2017 Miss Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach winners and have a chance to win prizes and special offers with The Pike Outlet’s street team.

Moderatto to Play Tecate Light Fiesta Friday Concert!
For those who quieren rock-and-roll, Moderatto has you covered: the Mexican supergroup is set to return to the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach and headline the popular Tecate Light Fiesta Friday Concert.
The Tecate Light Fiesta Friday Concert will take place at approximately 6:45 p.m. on the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center Terrace Plaza and is free to Friday race ticket holders. Space at the Plaza is limited and will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Moderatto’s glam metal-themed attire and rock hits such as “Quiero Rock,” “Márchate Ya” (“Leave Now”) and “Isabel” have made this band a fan favorite at the Grand Prix in previous years. The group consists of Bryan Amadeus (lead singer, guitar and piano), Elohim Corona (drums), Mick Marcy (guitar), Xavi Moderatto (bass), and Roy (guitar). The group has earned a reputation for wild, theatrical live performances and has attracted a large tongue-in-cheek fan base in the club scenes of Mexico City.

Featuring a wide variety of on- and off-track activities for the entire family, the Grand Prix weekend’s on-track action will be headlined by the Verizon IndyCar Series and also include the BUBBA burger Sports Car Grand Prix, featuring the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Motegi Racing Super Drift Challenge, SPEED Energy Stadium Super Trucks, Pirelli World Challenge and the inaugural running of the historic Can-Am Challenge.
Ticket prices for Friday’s racing events and concert start at $32 for a General Admission ticket. Three-day tickets, pre-paid parking packages, handicapped seating, Verizon IndyCar Series Paddock access passes, Super Photo tickets and an array of VIP Club packages are also available.

SMG Presents Kings of Chaos Starring Billy Idol, Billy Gibbons and Chester Bennington
Rock-and-roll royalty will invade the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach when SMG Presents the Kings of Chaos Starring Billy Idol, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top and Chester Bennington of Linkin Park and Stone Temple Pilots for a high-energy performance at the event’s popular Saturday night Rock-N-Roar Concert.
Free to Saturday race ticket holders, the concert will take place at approximately 6 p.m. Space at the outdoor stage is limited and will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Kings of Chaos, the brainchild of Guns-N-Roses and Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum, is an international all-star band with a revolving lineup of top rock-and-roll talent. In addition to Idol, Gibbons and Bennington, the lineup for Long Beach is scheduled to include Sorum on drums, Robert and Dean DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots on bass and guitar, respectively, and Billy Duffy of The Cult on guitar.
